Who are we?

ABOUT

The Bahá’ís of Chilliwack work alongside their friends and neighbours in all parts of Canada to apply the teachings of Bahá’u’lláh to their lives and community.

followers of Bahá’u’lláh

Bahá’ís are followers of Bahá’u’lláh, a Divine Messenger Whose teachings and principles provide the foundation for humanity to build a united society. These principles include the essential oneness of humankind, the elimination of all forms of prejudice, the unity of all religions, the full equality of women and men and the emancipation of minority groups, and international institutions and systems of governance which promote justice and wellbeing for all.

Bahá’u’lláh established a powerful and dynamic Covenant with humankind, which binds and unites the Bahá’í community in all its diversity. Bahá’u’lláh appointed His eldest son, Abdu’l-Bahá as the Centre of His Covenant, and established an Administrative Order that serves as a channel through which the spirit of the Faith flows, invigorating individual, and collective efforts.

Key Figures

The Báb

The Báb (1819-1850), meaning the Gate, was the Forerunner of Bahá’u’lláh, and He prepared the people for the coming of a new Manifestation.

‘Abdu’l-Bahá

‘Abdu’l-Bahá (1844-1921), meaning servant of Bahá, was the eldest son of Bahá’u’lláh. To guarantee that His Revelation would achieve its purpose of creating a united world and to safeguard the unity of the Bahá’í community, Bahá’u’lláh appointed ‘Abdu’l-Bahá as His successor and the Centre of His Covenant.

Bahá’u’lláh

Bahá’u’lláh (1817-1892), meaning the Glory of God, is the Prophet-Founder of the Bahá’í Faith. He wrote thousands of verses, letters and books and outlined a framework for developing a united global civilization accounting for humankind’s spiritual and material well-being.

Shoghi Effendi

Shoghi Effendi (1897-1957), Guardian of the Bahá’í Faith. Abdu’l-Bahá named His eldest grandson, Shoghi Effendi, as the Guardian of the Faith.
